After an animal or a human has ingested any type of pill or prescription drug, all of the components of the drug aare not completely absorbed. The remains of these drugs are excreted and are now showing up in ground water, soil, waterways and even drinking water. The reaosn for this is because our ocnventional sewage systems are not finding these duges, or even looking for them. Another cause of this pharmaceutical pollution is when people flush excess pills down the toilet, as they ultimately end up somewhere in our environment. This form of pollution has massive impacts on agriculture, wildlife, and humans. almost eighty percent of streams in the united states contain contaiminents such as antibiotics, steroids, synthetic hormones or any other common drugs. About half of the streams contained seven or more compounds, one water sampls alone, contained 38 different types of chemicals, and one third of the streamscontained ten or more compounds. Many drugs are ingested in the united states and about ninety percent of these are excreted back out of the body into the sewere system and essentially in our environment. Humans alons consum 235 million doses of antibiotics yearly, and livestock and poultry farmers administer over 21 million pounds of antibiotics to animals in the year 2004. These drugs do not only affect the health of humans but also animals who feed on thier natural surroundings. In conclusion, Pharmaceutical distribution and waste management has a great impact on our society and our environment especially in the health aspects.
Personally, i do not think that drusg should be legalized, but i also do not do drugs. I personally think that most of the people that want drugs to be legalized are involved with them, therefore they want to have the reassurance that what they are doing is okay with the law. However, i do not tihnk that something so harmful and life threatenging to a person should be legal by law. I do however, think that some drugs, depending on the strength and dosage, should be legalized for the purpose of medical treatment. Also, i think that the reason behind legalization should be medical treatment or research and this only. I tihnk that the impact of my decision on our nation would not change. Drusg are illegal today but people are still illegally doing them. Just because people say drugs are bad or encourage people to stop doing them, doesnt mean that people will listen. There are many problems currently in mexico with the drug cartels. The government is aware of these problems but there is not too much they can do because the drugs are in such high secrecy. If the United States decided to follow my decision, they would not really be chaning anything. I think that our government could be more strict on the distrubution of drugs in america, however, in our country there has not been a huge problem that has significantly caused the government to take action, other than the mexican drug cartels, which are based in mexico and not the United States. So In conclusion, i think that the current laws that the United States government abides by are perfectly fine and are doing just as good of a job as they could be with the limits of drug use for medical reasons.
I definetely do not think under any circumstances that tobacco should be legal. Some donctors and researchers are said to believe that tobacco can help treat certain illnesses. However, i believe that even though it may temporarily relief people of symptoms, the long term effects are stil present. Tobacco has so many long term effects that a short term usage would only hurt you more. You could easily become addicted, which would have a tremendous impact on your life. tobacco would affect your personal health by making you more prone to lung cancer, emphysemia and other terrible diseases. Tobacco can also give you bad breath, shortness of breath, increased heart rate, yellowing of teeth and many other harmful conequences. tobacco would also affect your societal health by possibly causing you to come into poverty. Tobacco is very expensive when it all adds up. The cost of any form of tobacco after one becomes addicted increases tremendously. This factor would definetely put you lower in society and make it harder for you to get a job or to be taken seriously in the real world. The Legalization of tobacco would aslo greatly affect the government. The government could charge taxes on tobacco and the tobacco industries would also greatly prosper. This would be a good condition for these industries but terrible fo the health of americans. In conclusion, i definetely think that tobacco should NOT become legalized because there are way too many health detriments as consequences for this possoble occurence.
