After an animal or a human has ingested any type of pill or prescription drug, all of the components of the drug aare not completely absorbed. The remains of these drugs are excreted and are now showing up in ground water, soil, waterways and even drinking water. The reaosn for this is because our ocnventional sewage systems are not finding these duges, or even looking for them. Another cause of this pharmaceutical pollution is when people flush excess pills down the toilet, as they ultimately end up somewhere in our environment. This form of pollution has massive impacts on agriculture, wildlife, and humans. almost eighty percent of streams in the united states contain contaiminents such as antibiotics, steroids, synthetic hormones or any other common drugs. About half of the streams contained seven or more compounds, one water sampls alone, contained 38 different types of chemicals, and one third of the streamscontained ten or more compounds. Many drugs are ingested in the united states and about ninety percent of these are excreted back out of the body into the sewere system and essentially in our environment. Humans alons consum 235 million doses of antibiotics yearly, and livestock and poultry farmers administer over 21 million pounds of antibiotics to animals in the year 2004. These drugs do not only affect the health of humans but also animals who feed on thier natural surroundings. In conclusion, Pharmaceutical distribution and waste management has a great impact on our society and our environment especially in the health aspects.
Personally, i do not think that drusg should be legalized, but i also do not do drugs. I personally think that most of the people that want drugs to be legalized are involved with them, therefore they want to have the reassurance that what they are doing is okay with the law. However, i do not tihnk that something so harmful and life threatenging to a person should be legal by law. I do however, think that some drugs, depending on the strength and dosage, should be legalized for the purpose of medical treatment. Also, i think that the reason behind legalization should be medical treatment or research and this only. I tihnk that the impact of my decision on our nation would not change. Drusg are illegal today but people are still illegally doing them. Just because people say drugs are bad or encourage people to stop doing them, doesnt mean that people will listen. There are many problems currently in mexico with the drug cartels. The government is aware of these problems but there is not too much they can do because the drugs are in such high secrecy. If the United States decided to follow my decision, they would not really be chaning anything. I think that our government could be more strict on the distrubution of drugs in america, however, in our country there has not been a huge problem that has significantly caused the government to take action, other than the mexican drug cartels, which are based in mexico and not the United States. So In conclusion, i think that the current laws that the United States government abides by are perfectly fine and are doing just as good of a job as they could be with the limits of drug use for medical reasons.
I definetely do not think under any circumstances that tobacco should be legal. Some donctors and researchers are said to believe that tobacco can help treat certain illnesses. However, i believe that even though it may temporarily relief people of symptoms, the long term effects are stil present. Tobacco has so many long term effects that a short term usage would only hurt you more. You could easily become addicted, which would have a tremendous impact on your life. tobacco would affect your personal health by making you more prone to lung cancer, emphysemia and other terrible diseases. Tobacco can also give you bad breath, shortness of breath, increased heart rate, yellowing of teeth and many other harmful conequences. tobacco would also affect your societal health by possibly causing you to come into poverty. Tobacco is very expensive when it all adds up. The cost of any form of tobacco after one becomes addicted increases tremendously. This factor would definetely put you lower in society and make it harder for you to get a job or to be taken seriously in the real world. The Legalization of tobacco would aslo greatly affect the government. The government could charge taxes on tobacco and the tobacco industries would also greatly prosper. This would be a good condition for these industries but terrible fo the health of americans. In conclusion, i definetely think that tobacco should NOT become legalized because there are way too many health detriments as consequences for this possoble occurence.

Too Young To Be A Dad

I think that many things pressure guys into having sex. However, I think that peer pressure is the most common form of pressure for this situation. I think that many guys think they will seem cool if they have sex, and earn more respect from his guy friends. I also think that girls may sometimes feel pressure to have sex, from their boyfriend, who is getting the pressure from his friends. Perosnally, i tihnk the reasons that guys and girls feel pressure is because they want to fit in. But, sex i tihnk is the worest way to fit in. I know that by having sex for attention, i would look at that person with less integrity and repesct I can understand that some girls may feel pressure from their more experienced friends who are having sex, but I don’t think that is any reason to give in to the pressure. I definitely feel that drugs and alcohol play an important factor in the pressure to have sex. When a guys or for that matter, a girl, is under the influence of any drug, including alcohol, the dangers of sexual activity increase. Alcohol increases a person’s inability to make decision, leading to a poor decision involving sexual behavior.

Everyday, industrial agriculture uses a vast amount of water, energy, chemicals and other resources. The use of these resources in farming has lead to an increased amount of pollution in the air and in water. Herbicides, insecticides, and animal waste products are constantly growing in number in the ground and even in surface water. For example, chemical compounds used in the midwest, can travel down the mississippi river into the gulf of mexico. On its journey these chemicals are spreading being spread along its path. The chemicals being used on these crops are constantly found in grocery stores and still in the crops as we eat them. Animals like cows and pigs who feed on these crops are also ingesting these chemicals into their body. If we eat the meat of a cow who has ingested these harsh chemicals, we too, may be ingesting the chemicals as well. more than 15 new disease have been linked to the rise of factory animal farming in the United States. Many organizations have brought this topic up to the government, but the government seems to be focusing on other things. You may find it hard to believe that some waste factories are located on farms where animals that we eat are being raised. These animals are infested with infectious diseases. The avian flu, is a hot topic for a pandemic on the rise in the future. many birds worlwide have been effected with the avian flu such as turkey, and ducks, some animals that humans do indeed eat. Although this harmful disease has not shown its darkside in the United States, many scientist and biologists are trying to find a way to stop it becuase they are predicting that it may become prevalent sometime in the future.
I found that a recent study in china of 35,303 chinese women indicated that a higher intake of soy protein can lead to a reduced risk of breast cancer found in postmenopausal women. Isoflavones, a compound found highlt in soy, is 60 % more prevalent in women without breast cancer. However, various studies state that you must start taking soy at the beginning of puberty in order for it to have the positive effect. Soy can also negatively effect you. Soy protein can increse yje amount of the hormone, estrogen, a female growth hormone, in your body. Also, some of the Phytates in soy can block the amount of mineral intake your body can handle. Soy protein also has enzyme inhibitors, making protein digestion more difficult. It also contains Haemaggluttin, which increases red blood cell clumping and inhibits oxygen uptake and growth. My belief about soy, as well as any other dietary protein or supplement, is that it can work if u use it the right way. If you take too much or too little of the protein it may cause negative effects or no effects. Also, you have to always be responsible and careful when it comes to what you are deciding to let into your body. If you are not careful about how much soy you let into your body, you could begin to develop unsafe amounts of hormones in your body. This information allows me to conclude that soy cna be good for you. You must always be hesitant about putting any unfamiliar chemicals into your body, and you must think this decision through thoroughly. You should know the health benefits and downsides vefore allowing anything into your body. Therefore, i can see how soy could be beneficial to your health, but i also can see how it can have a very negative impact on your bodily functions.

Conflict Resolution

Conflict Resolution is very important when it comes to problem solving and resolving disagreements. I found a very effective method of conflict resolution call ed the "8 Step Method". The first step in this method is to Know yourself and take care of yourself. You should know what kinds of behavior bother you or may cause you to get angry. Also, if you take care of your body and stay healthy and strong, this can allow your listening and resolving skills to become more keen. The second step is to Clairfy your personal needs, that were threatened by the dispute. This step includes knowing what needs you have. These needs include substantive needs, psychological needs, and also procedural needs. If you didnt know substantive needs are needs that have to do with the conflict or the "stuff" that lead up to it. Procedural needs are needs that are related to the awareness of your substantive needs. And lastly, Psychological needs are needs related to fostering a safe environment in which people are willing to take the risks involved in honest communication of their differences, concerns and potential similarities. The third step in this method is Identifying a safe place of negotiation. This involves an appropriate place for discussion, or "Neutral Zone". Other key factors in theis step include mutual consent to negotiate/appropriate time, role of support people (facilitators, mediators, advocates), and agreement to groundrules. The fourth step is to take a listening stance into the interaction. This step involves encouraging the speaker to shar his or her side of the story, Clarify the issue at hand, Restate the real issue rather than making assumptions, Reflect on each other's feelings, and Validate the concerns of the other person. The fifth step is to assert your needs clearly and specifically The sixth step is to approach the problem with flexibility. This means that you have to be open to the other persons thoughts ot ideas. The seventh step in this method of conflict resolution is Manage the disagreement with Calmness, Patience and Respect. ALthough you may be feeling a mix of emotions toward the person you are dealing with, it is very important to stay calm and to not let your nerves take the best of you. the last step in this method is to Build an agreement that works for both of you. Ultimately you and the other eprson need to compromise your problems and find a solution that satisfies both of your needs. I definetely think that this method is very reliable and effective. I think that if ever faced with a serious problem or conflict, i would use this method. In schools and other places where bullying is present conflict reolution is very important. Even if you choose not to use this method there are many other methods you should use. Conflict resolutions are very quick and efficient when it comes to serious problem solving and disagreements.

Decision Making

I found another GREAT way of making decisions was using the "P.L.U.S" method. This method involves 6 steps towards making the right decision. The first step is to define the problem. Defining the problem includes describing why the decision is called for, and identifying the most desired outcome of the problem. The second step is to identify available alternative solutions to the problem. This includes being open to methods you used in the past and not to limit yourself to alternatives. The next step is to evaluate your identified alternatives. When evaluating, you need to take in mind the positive and/or negative outcomes of the decision. The fourth step is to make the decision. This is the most important step, as you are carrying out the executive choice. The fifth step is to implement the decision, or put it to use. You have to remember that deciding on the point is not the same as actually doing it. The final step is to evaluate your decision. This includes observing whether or not your decision helped the problem.

Another decision making model is the 5 step model, most commonly used. Step 1 is to State the problem. Step 2 is to identify your alternatives. Step 3 is to evaluate the alternatives. Step 4 you must carry out the decision. Finally step 5 is to implement your decision. The discipline involved in making decisions is common throughout most decision making models. Discipline strongly influences what decision you make, and whether or not its the right one.

Both of these decision making models are very similar. Each model allows you to think out what decision you are going to make and evaluate your choice. You must also remember to carry out each decision that you make. However, in most cases, you conscience will help you make the right decision, but with a short lapse in judgment your life could flash before your eyes. It is very important to thoroughly evaluate your decisions and take the time to think them through. In conclusion, many of the decision making models consist of the same step, along with extra ideas to help you execute the right choice. So next time it comes to making an important decision, or any decision, think it through and follow the basic steps:
Give though to the problem
Review your choices
Evaluate the consequences
Assess and choose your decision
Think it over

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, is a psychiatric problem, which occurs when a person has been through a terrifying event, in which intense physical harm occurred or was threatened. Some events that trigger PTSD include, rape or any other personal assaults, natural disasters, death of loved ones, car accidents, or military combat. Many patients of PTSD become emotionally numbed. Patients may experience flashbacks, or nightmares in which the situation “haunts” them. Flashbacks are a very common symptom of PTSD. Flashbakcs can include, sounds, smells, images, or feelings that remind you of the trauma. Flashbacks are usually triggered by everyday things, like slamming a door, or a car backing up on a street. Flashbacks may allow you to lose touch with reality and you may feel like the incident is happening again. Patients also start to lose interest in the things they once loved; they may also become aggressive or violent. PTSD affects about 7.7 million adults in America; however it can occur at any age, even early childhood. PTSD is many times come with substance abuse, depression, or other anxiety disorders like agoraphobia, or phobias. Flashbacks are a very common symptom of PTSD. If you think you are experiencing PTSD, you should first contact your family physician. If you are diagnosed with the disorder, you should be taken to a mental health physician. You may be issued medication for your condition, along with sessions with a psychologist to discuss what your are experiencing. It is very important for your family to support you in your time of need. Many families help the patient recover from PTSD, as well as accompany them to their appointment,s, and even getting involved in PTSD support groups. In conclusions, PTSD is a very serious disorder that can greatly damage a persons life.
