Everyday, industrial agriculture uses a vast amount of water, energy, chemicals and other resources. The use of these resources in farming has lead to an increased amount of pollution in the air and in water. Herbicides, insecticides, and animal waste products are constantly growing in number in the ground and even in surface water. For example, chemical compounds used in the midwest, can travel down the mississippi river into the gulf of mexico. On its journey these chemicals are spreading being spread along its path. The chemicals being used on these crops are constantly found in grocery stores and still in the crops as we eat them. Animals like cows and pigs who feed on these crops are also ingesting these chemicals into their body. If we eat the meat of a cow who has ingested these harsh chemicals, we too, may be ingesting the chemicals as well. more than 15 new disease have been linked to the rise of factory animal farming in the United States. Many organizations have brought this topic up to the government, but the government seems to be focusing on other things. You may find it hard to believe that some waste factories are located on farms where animals that we eat are being raised. These animals are infested with infectious diseases. The avian flu, is a hot topic for a pandemic on the rise in the future. many birds worlwide have been effected with the avian flu such as turkey, and ducks, some animals that humans do indeed eat. Although this harmful disease has not shown its darkside in the United States, many scientist and biologists are trying to find a way to stop it becuase they are predicting that it may become prevalent sometime in the future.
